USE OF VIDEOCONFERENCING PLATFORMS

To support the flexibility of Kumon worksheet study, Kumon Instructors may choose to offer support to students and parents through the use of various videoconferencing platforms.

These platforms will allow for interaction between Instructors and students or parents. Instructors may choose to use videoconferencing platforms in the form of websites or applications such as Skype or Facetime.

Another platform which may be used by Instructors is Zoom. Zoom has the advantage of allowing several parties to participate simultaneously. However, participants in a Zoom conference must understand and acknowledge that if multiple users are connected at any one time, all participants may see and view one another, and there can be no expectation of privacy.

Therefore, if parents and students choose to interact with an Instructor through Zoom or any other videoconferencing platform, they will be doing so with full acknowledgement that any image or video of a participant, including a child, may be viewed by multiple other participants and these images or videos could be copied by means of a digital photograph or video recording.

Parents and guardians further acknowledge that:

  1. Kumon and the Instructor have no control over the actions of other participants in a videoconference, and that Kumon and the Instructor shall be absolutely and completely released and relieved of any liability whatsoever by reason of any unauthorised use, copying or dissemination of images or videos of any child during the use of a videoconferencing platform, or the actions of persons other than Kumon. Parents and guardians agree that they will not (and ensure that the child does not) store, broadcast, or otherwise use or make available any images, videos or sound from videoconferences and recordings thereof.
  2. Kumon and/or the Instructor may record Zoom or other videoconference sessions for training and quality purposes, subject to consent given by the parent or guardian.
  3. Whilst Kumon will take all reasonable steps to ensure that videoconferences are secured from participation by any uninvited persons, parents and guardians acknowledge and agree that Kumon will not be liable for any security breaches outside of its control.
  4. They have the authority to act as the parent or guardian of any child appearing, and further acknowledge that they have read and fully understand this disclosure, and consent to images or videos of their child being disclosed through Zoom or other videoconferencing platforms. The parent or guardian agrees to supervise the child at all times while the videoconference is in progress, and ensure that appropriate behaviour is maintained in line with what would be expected of the child if he/she was attending a Kumon Centre in person.
